Balance Health and Performance is committed to transparency with our patients about how technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), is used in our practice. This policy explains what AI is used for, what it is not used for, and the safeguards we apply, consistent with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) guidance, Meeting your professional obligations when using Artificial Intelligence in healthcare (2024), and our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. How we use AI

AI tools may be used at our practice to support administrative and operational tasks, such as:

• Drafting or summarising non-clinical correspondence

• Scheduling and practice management support

• Reporting and analytics on practice operations

AI tools are not used to make clinical diagnoses, determine treatment, or replace the clinical judgement of your treating practitioner. Any AI-assisted output that touches your care is reviewed by a qualified practitioner before it informs a clinical decision.

3. Accountability

Your treating practitioner remains fully responsible for your care and for any AI-assisted output used in connection with it. AI is a tool to support our staff and practitioners, it does not replace professional judgement or accountability.

4. Staff understanding and training

Staff and practitioners who use AI tools in this practice are required to understand the tool's intended use, its limitations, and the circumstances in which it should not be relied upon, before using it in the course of their work.

5. Your privacy and data

• We handle all personal and health information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

• Where AI tools are used in connection with your information, we take reasonable steps to ensure data governance and security standards appropriate to health information are met.

• We do not use identifiable patient information to train third-party AI models.

6. Consent and your rights

You have the right to:

• Be informed when AI is used in connection with your care or your information

• Ask questions about how AI is used at this practice

• Raise concerns, which will be documented and addressed by your treating practitioner or practice management
